Jom Membaca – The Road To Nab End
.
salam uolsss!~
another synopsis buku yg iols baca
rasanya entry ni pendek jugak lah
sebab iols tak reti dan tetiba blur nak buat cam selalu tu
hik hik hik
hik hik hik
buku pilihan - the road to nab end
nab end – nama tempat kat england sana nun…
nak tau lebih tepat – sila gugel ye
ekekekeke
kisah zaman kanak2 penulis – william woodruff
dah pun meninggal dunia dua tahun yg lepas
buku ni pernah diterbitkan sebelum ni
pada tahun 1993 di bawah tajuk ‘billy boy’
tho heols ni namanya william
tapi his families – relatives and everybody called him billy
sute gak lah kan – sokmo william jadik willie or will aje…
born in blackburn pada 12 september 1916
dan meninggal dunia di gainesville, florida pada 23 september 2008
era kanak2 pada zaman dulu tu
tak lah secanggih sekarang ye
nak plak masa tu perang dunia pertama kan….
dengan zaman kemelesetan ekonomi
strike pun ada jugak – sampai lah ke tahap kebuluran
jadik amat susah ye hidup waktu tu
education pun tak lah dititik beratkan sangat
even billy pun – his parents pun tak ambik berat pasal pelajaran
billy ni ada dua orang kakak dan seorang abang
so heols ni anak bongsu lah kan…
eldest sister jenny – lahir kat fall river – amerika
brenda second sister – lahir kat blackburn, endland
begitu jugak dengan dan – his brother dan jugak billy
brenda ni seorang kakak yg agak pandai jugaklah
tapi disebabkan kemiskinan – sheols terpaksa berenti sekolah
dan kerja di kilang cotton / kapas
earlier – his parents migrate ke US dengan family ayah depa ni lah
duduk menetap kat fall river
masa duduk kat sana – kira depa ni hidup senang jugak lah
when his parents decided nak balik ke blackburn
nenek si will – grandmother selma ni bising jugak lah
ye lah – kat fall river ni depa hidup senang
kalo balik ke blackburn mesti lah hidup susah
the reason depa migrate ke US dulu pun
sebab nak lari dari kemiskinan dan hidup susah semua tu
true to his grandmother word – bila his parents sampai ke england
depa ni hidup susah – duduk macam setinggan gitu…
his father then join askar – tinggal lah his wife dan anak2 kat blackburn
and after that worked as weaver at cotton mill
part paling best – all his life masa si billy ni membesar
he thought that he was born at home macam kanak2 yg lain
"i'd always believed that i had been born in our cottage in griffin street,
until i discovered that i was born prematurely across the street
in the carding-room of hornby's cotton mill.
day long, mother cleaned cotton there.
several days earlier she had received a telegram
saying that my father had been killed in france
in the great war and that the war office regretted it.
on the morning of my birth she had fainted before one of the cotton grinders
when a second telegram arrived saying that
the first had all been a mistake and that my father was alive."
and two days later - his mother was back at work
mak heols ni tak de pantang2 bagai ye
cukup takat rehat dua hari kekdahnya
lepas tu sambung keja
tak keja – kebuluran lah depa anak-beranak
the one and only holiday yg heols dapat masa heols berumur 10 tahun
with his mother – depa ke blackpool
he never wonders where they get the money to do so
only where she disappears to with strange men in the afternoons
before taking him to the funfair, pockets jingling an hour or two later
masa heols bersekolah – heols keja jugak lah
untuk membantu keluarga heols ni
before and after school – heols buat keja delivery suratkhabar
then at the age of 14 – heols dah tak sekolah dah
tapi buat keja lain plak – keja kat kedai runcit jadik tukang hantar barang
or grocer’s lad they called him…
masa ni – both his sister dah berkahwin
dan keluarga depa ni pun dah berpindah ke rumah yg lebih selesa
dari rumah setinggan tu – depa duduk menetap di livingstone road
tapi sebab rumah ni besar – the kids have their own room
and also ada bilik mandi dan dapur bagai
maka sewa pun mahal lah….
tu yg billy ke jugak membantu his family with his income as grocer’s lad
so – when he lost his job – makin susah lah hidup depa ni
and finally depa terpaksa jugak pindah dari rumah kat livingstone road
kali ni duduk kat nab end – but the condition was worse than griffin street
masa kat griffin street – billy shared room with dan - his brother
and jenny and brenda in another room
his parents also have their own room
kat nab end – hanya ada satu bilik and all six of them
billy, his parents – his sisters and their spouse
kena share satu bilik – sesak tak hengat kekdahnya…
and they have no privacy at all….
dah le tu – suasana keliling kotor sangat2
bukan aje dalam rumah sesak
luar rumah pun sama gak sesak tak hengat donia
kotor – crowded – bising dari pagi sampai kemalam
depa jadik depressed kekdahnya
later on – billy dapat keja jadik junior labourer at brick works
thos tu keja sementara – he was happy with it
walopon keja tu amat memenatkan -
lama jugak lah heols keja kat brick works tu
and then later on – heols tinggalkan lancanshire
and move to London untuk carik kerja yg lebih baik at the age on 16
hoccay – citer ni sampai kat situ aje ye
sebab dalam buku pun sampai situ aje
harus lah nak ken abaca buku sambungan
beyond nab end
nak kena carik kat library lah kekdahnya
cerita ni best banget ye
kalo uols baca bukunya – kena baca dua-tiga kali
sebab perkataan yg di gunakan tu
perkataan lama – zaman blom ada dictionary
nak plak loghat omputeh yg pekat
so ejaan agak memeyongkan kepala bila baca
contoh ayat2 dalam buku iteww :
“tha’s go a calf’” i shouted, disregarding his ugly look
“oh, ah’av, ’av ah?
“tha ’as.”
“where?”
“down t’ bank. he woke us up.”
“tha’s woke me up. cudn’t ta ‘ve cum’ n told me after cockcrow?”
“we thowt tha’d want te know.”
“ya did, did ya?”
“ai, besides, we’re goin; ‘oom.”
“well, that’s summat,” said the farmer as he slammed down the window.
another one :
the shouting match ended with father bawling :
“goddamit, go ‘n join t’ army if tha must,
but stay theer. ah’ve ‘ad enough of thee”
last one sebelum iols tamatkan entry ni
hik hik hik
we all held our breath.
surely, he couldn’t say no to all that.
but he did
“tha off thi ’ead, woman” he shouted.
“how can we afford to live with toffs? we’re ‘and to mouth as ‘tis”
“that’s wat ye’re wrang,” she sobbeb, hiding her face in her hands.
“that’s wat ye’re wrang. don’t you understand?
we ‘ve got to do summat of we’re goin’ te dee in this dirt.”
“aw reet,” he answered with a nod.
“aw reet, provided tha’ll promise no more shocks
and no more fancy house. a promise, mind?”
hoccay itu aje
enjoy reading ya!
salam and adios
